That was the way down.

Thirty-one powers of ten.

Now the way back up, from atoms to arguments, through what he has made at each scale.

10−9 ma carbon nano-onion

He grew onions out of diamond.

Anneal nanodiamond and it rearranges into nested shells of carbon. His UCL PhD made those shells into supercapacitor electrodes, and the synthesis is now a US patent, granted on 13 October 2026, with him as co-inventor.

  • 834 m²/gsurface area after chemical activation, the highest in the thesis
  • 6.6 nmnano-onions from his new high-pressure, high-temperature route
  • 710 °Cstability in air of the best activated onions

commits in twelve months.

Each point of light is one of them, on one spoke for each day of the year to 28 October 2026. The longest spoke is 757 commits in a single day. There are 17,341 under his own account in all, across 90 repositories.

10−2 ma nuclear voltaic cell

Current from the nucleus.

A radioactive source gives off energy for years. A nuclear voltaic cell turns that energy into electricity, with no fuel to burn and no moving parts. He is an inventor on 14 US patent filings in energy and carbon materials, two of them granted.

Decay
n → p + e− + νe
Nuclear voltaic power sources
Fission
232Th + n → 233U
A dual-fluid thorium reactor design
Fusion
p + 11B → 3 4He
A study of proton–boron fusion

10−1 ma chess piece

383 wins from 383 games.

116 of them blitz, the rest timed. The board here is open, with nothing at stake but the game.

100 ma race car

He designed a race car.

The chassis group at Southampton was seven engineers. He did the car’s entire 3D design and its suspension.

Every part, drawn by him.

Take it apart in 3D, follow rally, NASCAR and Formula 1 live, then drive the stage yourself.
